2025 Mazda BT-50: What the press have to say
The BT-50 was Mazda Australia’s third best-selling vehicle in 2024, and on the world stage our market is the most significant by some margin, outselling the next biggest overseas region by almost eight times.
For 2025, this significant model has been treated to an equally significant update, incorporating tough new exterior styling, interior enhancements, more technology than ever, and comprehensive safety and assistance system updates.
In conjunction with the BT-50’s arrival in showrooms nationwide, Australia media recently sampled the versatile ute in rural Victoria’s Tallarook State Forest, and were encouraged to Give it Heaps on an intensive three-hour drive on tracks that put its impressive offroad capabilities and 4x4 functions – such as Hill Descent Control, Rough Terrain Mode, Low Range and locking rear diff – to the test.
Eiji Kimoto, Chief Designer of the Mazda BT-50 (as well as the stunning Mazda Arata concept and CX-50 available in North America) flew over from Japan to join the journalists, and give a deeper insight into how his vision was turned into a reality for the new vehicle.
Australian media verdicts are now in. Here’s a summary of their thoughts:
“The BT-50 remains a great looking model with an impressive balance of on and off-road abilities, and a tempting list of factory accessories” – Chasing Cars
“A great story for BT-50 buyers is the extensive range of accessories that Mazda offers for it, both in genuine accessories and factory approved gear from trusted aftermarket brands” – 4x4 Australia
“It may be a ute, but Mazda hasn't tried to skimp on safety across the expansive BT-50 line-up, with a good level of equipment on each model for its respective price point” – Carsguide
“Gone is the passenger car-inspired cuteness of the BT-50 and in is a tougher look” – News.com.au
“It’s a jack of all trades offering strong on-road, off-road and towing capabilities, and Mazda is confident the updated ute will strike a chord with buyers” – Carsales
