The Mazda MX-5 Club of South Australia

South Australia is arguably the driest state in the driest continent in the world (apart from Antartica) so it has some of the best weather for top-down MX-5 driving.

The Mazda MX-5 Club of South Australia (MMCSA) is located in Adelaide, South Australia, within an easy day drive through some of Australia’s premier wine regions, the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale, picturesque gum-filled Adelaide Hills and along the golden sand beaches of Gulf St Vincent.

The membership of more than 200 is a mix of working and retired MX-5 lovers, so MMCSA conducts two to three club runs or events every month, held both midweek and at weekends.

There is an enthusiastic band of club member racers, who compete against each other and other makes of sports cars in Hillclimbs and SuperSprints. Some of the SuperSprint rounds are now held at the newly opened The Bend Motorsport Park, which has the second-longest GT track in the world, beaten only by the Nordschleife, Nurburgring.

Every two years, MMCSA holds a combined 5-day event with the MX-5 Club members from the neighbouring Victoria/Tasmania states. In April this year, MMCSA hosted the event south of Adelaide on pristine Kangaroo Island.

Alternating between the years, there is an Australian MX-5 NatMeet, with all Australian MX-5 Clubs represented. These meets bring MX-5 owners together nationally, to in turn showcase their own states and to broaden the friendships across a common interest – the MX-5. MMCSA hosted NatMeet XIII in April 2018 in the Barossa Valley.

In April 2020, more than 30 club members will travel the 1,500kms in a convoy of MX-5s to NatMeet XIV, being held in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. This NatMeet XIV will be taking the opportunity to celebrate 30 years of the MX-5/Miata and also, 100 years of Mazda.
