Matt Wilson

Matt Wilson stars in renowned Aussie TV drama Neighbours and presents travel show HelloWorld, but when he’s off screen he loves adventuring in his Mazda BT-50

You’ve been a member of the Mazda Family for some time. What do you most love about your ambassador role and working with the brand?

I’m all about adventure. It’s my goal to see as many parts of the planet, and Mazda echoes that. Too many people find poor excuses not to explore and never end up doing it. Having the Mazda BT-50 in the garage is a ticket to the Outback, and if through sharing my trips I can convince just one person to do the same, then that’s my job done.

What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?

My wife Jess and I love travelling, whether it be to the middle of Australia or a quick camping trip by the ocean. We need adventure. A few weeks ago we were in Byron Bay kayaking, surrounded by humpback whales. That’s our kind of downtime.

Acting hasn’t always been the end goal for you. What got you into the industry?

I was actually a carpenter for 11 years prior to getting into acting. I was about to send in my application form for my builders’ licence the same day I landed the role on Neighbours. It shows that you never know what’s around the corner!

We know you’ve taken your Mazda BT-50 on some epic trips. What’s your favourite to date?

I have two favourites. Silverton is an abandoned mining town in New South Wales, just out of Broken Hill. I remember parking up at the Silverton Hotel as the sun went down and spotting donkeys strolling down the red-dirt road to drink out of the trough at the pub. My second favourite would be a trip with my wife up the east coast to Stockton Beach, also in New South Wales.

You love a bit of adventure, so where’s the next destination you’re looking to tick off?

A mate and I attempted to reach Cape York in Far North Queensland unsuccessfully a few years ago. I need to try again.
