IMSA Confirms return to Action

Mazda seized a dramatic 1-2 as the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship returned to action following the enforced absence caused by the coronavirus.

The series resumed at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida on 4 July, and it proved to be a great weekend for Mazda as Jonathan Bomarito and Harry Tincknell led Oliver Jarvis and Tristan Nunez across the line.

Next stop for the series is the Sebring International Raceway in Florida on 17 July, before further races at Virginia, Laguna Seca, Wisconsin, Ohio, Watkins Glen, Atlanta and Lime Rock Park. The season is scheduled to conclude with the Twelve Hours of Sebring in November.

“IMSA is grateful to all of our promoter partners for collaborating with us to develop a revised schedule of outstanding events,” said IMSA President John Doonan.

“Our priority since March has been to get back to racing as safely and as quickly as possible, and this revised schedule is evidence of that. We appreciate the patience, cooperation, and input of our IMSA stakeholders, and we all are very much looking forward to going racing again.”

Mazda made an excellent start to the season with second place in the Daytona 24 Hours in January with its RT24-P prototype. Meanwhile, you can whet your appetite for the return of the racing by watching Mazda Motorsports Moments on YouTube.

Produced during lockdown, the video series features driver interviews and behind-the-scenes insight reflecting on the 2019 breakthrough season, when Mazda recorded a hat-trick of memorable victories. Click here to take a look.
